The Library held a workshop from 9 to 11 December 2015 at Awana Genting Highland Golf & Country Resort to finalise the Library’s Strategic Plan for 2016-2018. The three day workshop was facilitated by Associate Professor Dr. Kiran Kaur and Dr. Janaki Sinnasamy and was attended by 25 senior librarians.
The workshop was opened by the Chief Librarian, Dr Nor Edzan Che Nasir, who explained the objective of the workshop. This was followed by a team building exercise known as the Mind Body Challenge and an introductory talk on Professionalism.
The librarians were divided into four groups who went on to draw up objectives and strategies for the Library’s four organisational goals. The goals were centered around the Library’s vision, mission and organisational values:
Vision
To transform the University of Malaya Library into a world ranked library, consistent with UM’s aspiration for world ranking.
Mission
In support of the University of Malaya’s global mission, the Library provides professional expertise,
diverse information resources, and knowledge-based services for the advancement of its quality research, teaching and learning.
Organisational Values
- We deliver value by anticipating, studying and responding to the changing needs of our user.
- We leverage technologies to provide the best services in the most effective and efficient manner.
- We are committed to creating an inviting environment that supports research, teaching, learning, innovation and collaboration.
The librarians connected with nature via a Nature Trail Walk but the weather was merciless as it rained heavily during the walk. After a good night’s rest, each group presented their objectives and strategies to the Library’s management.
