Storytelling Workshop and Training

The Storytelling Workshop and Training was held on November 1-3, 2022, at the Cube Room, Faculty of Education, and the Auditorium, Central Library. Mr. Nor Azhar Ishak was the invited facilitator for the workshop. He is a professional storyteller actively engaged in activities both locally and internationally.

The purpose of this workshop was to establish a group of trained storytellers from the staff of the University of Malaya Library (DSIC). This was a continuation of the Library’s efforts, which had begun the transliteration of Jawi manuscripts into Roman script. Among the manuscripts transliterated were ancient epic manuscripts. The Library aims for the transcribed manuscripts to be orally transmitted through these trained storytellers.

The modules covered during the 3-day workshop were as follows:

  1. The art and science of storytelling
  2. Components of storytelling (story, storyteller, audience)
  3. One story – Multiple techniques
  4. Storytelling techniques
  5. Elements of storytelling
  6. Read aloud
  7. Pre and post activities
  8. Building your toolkit
